No big surprise that I love Flipping Out. Clearly, if it’s a reality show and it’s on Bravo, I’m watching it. But I have a special soft spot in my heart for Jeff Lewis. I dig him and his OCD. I also have a thing for real estate and interior design, and Jeff’s houses are just flawless. Of course, I heart Jenni and Zoila and Roomba. Since we live in Jeff’s area, I’m always on the lookout for him. So far, no Jeff Lewis sighting though.

If you watched Flipping Out this season, a major plot point was renovating Chaz Dean’s salon. His salon is an old Craftsman that he bought in 1997 and converted into a tranquil oasis in the middle of Hollywood. Thanks to Jeff Lewis’ recent updates, the salon is now even more amazing for beauty hair making it the perfect place for clients to be all zen while they get beautified.

Chaz Dean also has an award-winning hair care line, Wen, which has been wildly successful on QVC.

Wen is also available on Chaz’s website and at his salon. Wen contains all-natural ingredients, like rosemary and tea tree oil that cleanse your hair without stripping the color or moisture. So it would be good to get some hair care tips and can make your hair healthy.

I got the chance to try out a review an editorial sample of Wen’s Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner, which hydrates damaged hair and is designed to be used without shampoo. Find out what I thought of Wen’s Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner after the break.

To Use:

I rinsed my hair thoroughly with cool water for about a minute and then applied the Cleansing Conditioner to the top of my beauty hair, to the nape/back, and to the ends of my hair. Since my hair is past my shoulders, Wen’s directions suggest I use about 40 pumps to cleanse my hair, but honestly I used nowhere near that much. I used probably about 15 pumps? Maybe because my hair long, but also fine I can get away with using less product.

Next, I added a little water to distribute the product and massaged it into my scalp for a few minutes. You can watch top women using this products to keep the hair healthy. Then I combed it through with a wide-tooth comb and let it sit while I completed the rest of my shower.I did not applying any to the crown or scalp area.

Results:
I have been a fan of no-poo cleansing for a while now. Since my hair has the tendency to be on the dry side, I often skip shampoo and just cleanse with conditioner, so I was very excited about a product made for this exact purpose. Wen’s Cleansing Conditioner was exceptional because it really felt like it was hydrating and getting rid of dirt and oil, probably due to the minty herbs and extracts, like menthol and rosemary.

Unlike other conditioners I have used for cleansing, my hair did not get slightly oily the following day. Awesome! Plus, it smells amazing. The result was shiny, manageable, great-smelling hair like other top women. Not at all dry or straw-like after I use harsh, stripping shampoos.

Japan's bi-annual fashion week concluded its ninth season on Monday, with a hodgepodge of more than 50 up-and-coming and more established brands and designers, all showcasing their unique, creative percipience for "must-buys" when their Spring/Summer collections hit boutiques and stores around the world next year.

Hoards of fashionistas flocked to Tokyo's Midtown area between Oct. 19 and 25 to check out what Tokyo's fashion guru's have in store for them when heavy wintry layers will give way to lighter, brighter garbs, as the mercury starts to rise next spring.

Tokyo-based Designer Junya Tashiro, a self-taught 'new-kid-on- the-block' in the world of fashion, treated his audience to a collection comprised of virginal-white, cotton, ruffled, knee- length skirts and women's dress, worn with white and silver, silk jackets -- sharply cut to accentuate figures and create poise.

Sagimori, having graduated from the Vantan Design Institute and at her tender age winning both the Prize for Excellence at the New Designer Fashion Grand Prix and the Nagoya Fashion Grand prix CONTEST in 2007, is both talented, relevant and unabashed about her mildly androgynous, single-hued, tailored offerings for S/S 2010.You can find fashion online news and other fashion related shows in modeling sites.

Other pieces from Sagimori included a stunning inky top, which was sheer in places to reveal flesh and solid in others. Coupled with this they've (finally) realized that to attract more foreign buyers and media, the whole production needed to be a little more "accessible" to a non-Japanese audience.

This year JFW took another step forward in doing what other fashion online shows around the world have been doing bi-annually for decades, using a little commonsense.

The outrageously good clothing that the Telford Sisters have stitched since the inaugural Guyana Fashion Weekend have soared to a more fearless, sexy, empowering place and it is hard not to feel tempted when their pieces are heating up the catwalk.

Stamping their authority on cool clothing, often with loud expressions of feminine power, designers at Sonia Noel’s fashion weekend made a statement – it’s a woman’s world.

From the new and surprisingly good afro-inspired designs of model turned designer, Melessa Payne to the blazing hot white jackets of Shedell Burch-Smith, an assertive air of female dominance was everywhere on Sunday night as fashion weekend wrapped up at the Princess Buddy’s International hotel.

What is interesting about the show this year was that there were hardly any dull designer moments, and there is a need to concentrate on the collections because the advertisement models or other models were largely lacklustre. The sisters Climax label is bold, assertive and sexy. The trademark black still dominates their collection and this year the emphasis was on prints. The collection featured tiny flair skirts, bustier tops, high waist jeans, and a string of hot leggings. Still heavy on accessorizing, the sisters went crazy on bows and incorporated huge bows into some pieces; if the bow was not on the outfit it ended up in the model’s hair.

Mind-blowing to edgy

Black is also the choice colour of designer, Keisha Edwards, who showed on the opening night, and based on reports out of the fashion weekend camp, her collection was “mind-blowing.” Her line ‘Eclipse’ was a parade of eccentric swimsuits to enticing ‘poom poom shorts.’ Flirty baby doll dresses, bustier and retro leggings defined the line which oozed sex appeal.

Between Edwards and the Telford sisters a bold new kind of fashion is emerging, but the sisters have the edge on cool designs.

The feel of edgy designs also came from Shedell Burch-Smith and Rhonda Dunbar, two young designers with a unique sense of style, and between last year and now, incredible maturity. Shedell took the audience by storm when she unleashed a collection of hot white blazer jackets designed to hug the female frame; she mixed them up with flowing shirts, plain pants and those ubiquitous leggings.

And Ronda did some interesting work with denim, offering up a collection of tame colours but with loud details. Her line featured everything from clean cut pants to sexy cocktail dresses and a parade of tantalizing bikinis.

20090829modelsBut it was not all about sex appeal; the artistry of designers such as Marcia De Santos, Carol Fraser, Chandini Ramnarine, Ronella Wosely, Zarenah Hamed-Pyle, Andrew Harris and Sonia Noel exhibited the creative draw of fashion weekend.

In Sonia’s case, it is always an inspiring line of casual, stunning clothing that floats on the body of any model, male or female with unequalled gorgeousness. This year her collection was splashed with vibrant colours, bright oranges and green and yellow. She fittingly closed the show.

Marcia and Ronella’s collections were among the few that drew loud reactions because of how good they were, and it was easy to understand why – they create not design. Marcia works her magic on linen and pushes it to unbelievable heights; it is clothing that compliments any female frame. This year she produced a collection of mostly cocktail dresses with her signature style, and the colours varying from pumpkin to olive and rich lavender.

Ronella also featured dresses but she mixed things up with afro-inspired designs featuring heavy details and incorporating beads and patchwork. She also created pieces for men, simple yet creative linen skirts and flowing pant suits. Designers such as Carol and Zarenah are good at crafting their pieces while Karen uses natural materials to make her statement about environmental preservation. Supermodel To Disco Superstar - Grace Jones

As Grace Jones tells the story, a certain pop singer friend once asked how she managed to get out from under her strict, religious Jamaican American family years ago, setting herself on the path to becoming a singer, actor and fashion fetish-object.

‘You know, Michael,‘ Jones told Michael Jackson, ‘I just did it.‘

And how. To paraphrase the title of one of her albums, Jones, now 61, has always been determined to keep living her life. Speaking by phone, she's witty, forthright and gracious, a model of diva-like decorum. But if time and experience have gentled her image as a buzz-cut pop dominatrix, a stylishly promiscuous Amazon princess, Jones still strives to maintain her independent spirit.

‘I just go with the flow, I follow the yellow brick road,‘ she said in her buoyant Caribbean accent. ‘I don't know where it's going to lead me, but I follow it.‘

Jones might not register the Oz-like exoticism that she did in the early 1980s, but she obviously didn't just drop in from Kansas, either. After keeping a relatively low profile for several years - as low as possible, that is, when you're a towering female supermodel with a crew cut - Jones lately has been reasserting herself in public, including as part of a Massive Attack-led concert in London last year.

Last November she released Hurricane, her first studio album in nearly two decades. Reviewing her show in London earlier this month, a critic for the Independent wrote that ‘With her stylised vocals, other-worldly appearance and well-muscled haunches, she is breathtaking: a true entertainer in every sense.‘
Performing live, Jones said of her current comeback tour, ‘is what I do best,‘ and she's happy to be a slave to the rhythm again. ‘I just perform 100 percent, I don't know how to cheat, I don't know how to hold back.‘

‘Music has its own depths, and I let it take me where it takes me, even if it means stripping all my clothes off.‘

Jones gives audiences an eyeful with her theatrical stage presence. Working with longtime collaborator and Oscar-winning costume designer Eiko Ishioka, she flaunts a variety of ensembles, including a profusion of custom-made headgear.

Her stylishness has been one of Grace Jones' calling cards since she broke into the New York club scene, after her statuesque looks marked her for a modeling career. ‘I was skinny as a rail and had high cheekbones and a very interesting face - or so I was told.‘

It was an odd turn of fate for a woman who'd been raised in a family so formal that as a girl she'd been forced to keep most body parts, even her knees, covered up.

Few of her early fans might've guessed that Jones' couture savvy was heavily influenced by her mother, an expert seamstress who used to copy patterns by Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent. Her mother was also an accomplished Pentecostal singer, with a voice that her daughter admiringly describes as ‘like going through the eye of a needle.‘

‘That's a voice. It turned out I had deep throat,‘ Jones said, adding a rumbly contralto laugh. ‘I had to train it to get higher.‘ She now works with a professional opera coach.

Besides her fashion modeling technique, Jones also brought a background in summer-stock theatre to her initial musical performances. But despite the catwalk-instilled confidence that she displayed onstage, she was ‘really nervous‘ when she first started recording music.

‘I never thought I was going to be a singer. That was an accident,‘ she said. ‘I remember doing an audition for a recording, my voice just trembled and fell apart.‘

But she persisted, benefiting from her own songwriting skills as well as her shrewd choice in producers such as Trevor Horn and Nile Rodgers, and musician collaborators such as the reggae rhythm-section masters bassist Robbie Shakespeare and drummer Sly Dunbar. Immersing herself in fruitful collaboration comes naturally, Jones indicated.

‘It just happens that you run into someone and this spark just happens. It's like you can be in a room with 100 people and this spark happens, this electrical spark happens. And then you find yourself working together or in bed together or having a child together.‘

Guided by her then-paramour, photographer/art director Jean-Paul Goude, Jones developed a series of striking public personas, in the best pop-chameleon manner of David Bowie. During the late 1970s and early '80s, she refashioned herself from a disco queen, being squired around Studio 54 by Andy Warhol, into an edgier, more androgynous, even intimidating figure, which she later capitalized on with film roles in Conan the Destroyer (1984) and the 1985 James Bond flick A View to a Kill.

She also evolved musically as disco yielded to New Wave, merging reggae beats as well as darker undercurrents with uptempo electro-pop.

Asked what she thinks in general of contemporary pop, Jones is characteristically frank. ‘It's gotten boring, to be honest. Repetitive. I don't think pop should mean that you had no talent.‘

Among Jones' latest personas, the most startling might be her role as grandparent to her son's young daughter.

For Jones, coming of age meant making a total break with her family, becoming a nudist, doing ‘quite a bit of acid-tripping‘ and generally acting out. Today, her family is totally supportive, Jones said, and her perspective on her own past behaviour has shifted.

‘I disappeared for about a year. It's a terrible, terrible thing to do to a parent. Now that I'm a parent, I'd hate to do that.‘

In the end, Jones believes, it is fear that often keeps people from living their lives most fully and openly.

One good thing about being a celebrity is the amount of influence you have on the public that adores you. Luckily, there are several of these stars who are willing to give back to their communities. That's not saying Nigel Barker is part of marine life but at least he's working to preserve their environment.

The America's Next Top Model judge and international photographer recently embarked on a project called ProtectSeals, teaming up with Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). His participation raised the awareness of several celebrities, who have also pitched in to help save the said animals.

Khloe Kardashian of Keeping Up with the Kardashians fame showed up at the event, which was held to make people know about the cruelty that these harmless creatures are subjected to. Other stars joined in, including Carmen Electra, Gossip Girl's Conor Paulo and Krysten Ritter, and 30 Rock's Katrina Bowden. All of them took part in boycotting Canadian seafood to stop the seal-hunts.

America's Next Top Model's Nigel Barker continued his campaign, working towards the goals of this year's World Environment Day. He entered a partnership with fellow photographer Luo Hong of the Luo Hong Foundation in China to hold a photographic exhibition at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Barker seems very passionate about the environment, seeing as how he pushes towards the success of such projects. "We live in a beautiful world that is often sadly treated with contempt," the America's next top modeling photographer said.

"I believe we owe it to ourselves and to the next generation to do all we can to protect, preserve and respect our planet. No one nation, state nor individual should have the right to brutalize the fauna or exploit the flora. Of course, most countries are guilty of such indiscretions but as individuals we have the power to stand up and do the right thing."

The exhibit, titled "Shared Destiny: Wildlife from Africa to the Arctic." will be hosted by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It showcases works by Barker and Luo and celebrates the diversity of the planet's animals while addressing the human practices that affect them.

For those who wish to pay a visit, Barker and Luo's exhibit will be held next Thursday, June 4 until Sunday, June 12. Opening ceremonies will be at 7pm in the Northeast Gallery of the UN's Visitor's Lobby.

Fashion Week in DC kicked off with a fashion industry networking party and trunk show. Foreign Exchange (4NXc), CI Sport, Stella Bonds, Diallo of D.C. walked the podium at the Washington Times Building on February 19, 2009. Washington, D.C. is one of other 22 U.S. cities, where Fashion Week is accessible to see and be seen at; NYC and Los Angeles are not the only cities that benefit from the Fashion Week and celebrities can now meet in between the two coasts to attend a Fashion Week. And you don’t have to be 6-2 to attend it either.

But don’t worry, you have not missed it all yet, there is always a magic of Internet, TV, radio and magazines. While you did miss the fashion runaways in London, Amsterdam, Paris, Hong Kong, Dehli and Moscow this year, there is always the magic of Internet, and the fashion fans who transfer and exchange information between the continents in no time. Our reporters in Los Angeles, New York and D.C. have covered it as well, with more detail than I would provide, because the fashion overview of this year’s Fashion Week is not the aim of my article this time, rather snapshots of fashion weeks around the world, women’s attempt to understand models and a bit of how fashion industry copies with the recession is my story today.

We do need to admit that women love talking about other women’s sense of fashion and sense of physique – this is natural, as long as it’s not an obsession. Kate Moss is not out of the picture, no matter what the tabloids are predicting, neither she is in a rehab, nor is pregnant, according to the latest news. She might have just gained a pound or two, which on her frame looks like a pregnancy. However, while we got used to Moss’ skinniness, and even grew to love it over the years, the scary thin Lindsay Lohan shocked everyone in-attendance at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show in New York, including all the people who’ve seen it on photos, not in person. I just wish she does not follow the examples of her personal fashion guru and consultant, Rachel Zoe, who has shrunk to the pea size from her “project” reality show, last season.

On the other hand, we might ask ourselves and them - the models- how can they keep their energy run high and non-stop during a ten-shows-a-day fashion week? It is definitely not a juicy steak with mashed potatoes that they eat in-between the shows. Plus, we all know what a glass of champagne on an empty stomach can do to us. The clothing has been sewed months in advance, so one inch more can do damage to the career of a model; does that mean they stop eating during the show week at all?

Every year I expect that some genius journalist digs in and writes the truth about a “fashion week” diet, because I, along with many other people out there, do not believe that one can be so skinny and still eat like a normal human being out there. That’s the reason film Gia (1998) made such a buzz in film community and brought the starter then, Angelina Jolie, recognition and fame. The film showed the truth, as close as it could get, about the modeling industry, although, there are some exceptions to the rules, which we see in the faces of Heidi Klum, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington, who have a healthy womanly curvy body. But this is not what my article is about.

Economy didn’t just hurt the financial and real estate sectors, it did damage to fashion world as well. During the New York Fashion Week, for example, most of the designers opt to combine their shows with the other designers (vanity is forgotten during the weak economic times). Other designers chose to showcase the designs made from simple, basic and cheap material, like paper. However, while a few designers let the grim recession mood creep into their collections, others stayed true to the richness and glamour of the fashion world and had their models glitter in gold and fabulousity, showing the autumn-winter 2009-2010 creations that might not be the most applicable outfits to today’s woman, especially the one in the workforce (that is if she is still employed.) Those money set aside on cloths, are now set aside for rent and food.

Designers, who start working on their next year collections months before the actual showcase, like many other industry professionals, could not predict the economic crisis, so a few, if any, designers around the world showed collections tailored to recessed households and individuals. And this applies to shows in London, Paris, Moscow and Delhi. I guess, even during the hard times, a girl can dream.

However, there were not many business outfits in the shows anyway; most of the outfits were meant for fab cocktail parties and receptions, such as the ones by Michael Kors, Narciso Rodriquez, Oscar de la Renta, Nanette Lepore and Jason W; Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg turned to more “functional” outfits.

To the greatest surprise, and at the same time – to the greatest respect, Michelle Obama, who, by the way, graced the March cover of American Vogue, was a no-show at Fashion Week, despite the presence of some of her beloved designers, Jason Wu (Inauguration Ball gown) and Narcisco Rodriguez (Election Night dress). The U.S. First Lady chose not to attend fashion shows in the times when some people can’t even afford to shop cloths at Target, not to mention a $20,000 gown. Instead, she chose to entertain kids at the White House in the celebration of the African-American History Month and to make trips to speak and thank Departments of Transportation and Agriculture – or things and events that matter to the country and people more than fashion.

Still, after years of fashion shows around the world, New York still holds the ‘title’ of being the fashion center of the world, discovering and bringing to local and global fashionistas designers from around the world. Fashion Photography's Finest

It's not often that I let Victoria Beckham register on the radar, but reading yesterday that she's been photographed by Solve Sundsbo for the cover of Russian Vogue, my interest was piqued.

Sundsbo is the fashion photographer famous models photography for producing pictures that look as though they've been digitally altered, when really they haven't. An artist in the traditional sense then, rather than a slick snapper.

His industry plaudits come from Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, Hermès, Bally and Armani. Alongside Alexander McQueen he set Eva Herzigova on fire, as part of a filmette for the Florence Biennale. In an interview with The Independent, he admits "she was really floating on water but it looked as if she was going up in flames."

Fashion photography follows a path of its own. It often tends to be over-simplistic, at least as far as its advertising incarnation is concerned, or fall into the Sex Sells (it does, but it's also hackneyed) trap, but there have been and are photographers who've coaxed it into works of art.

Models wanted for fashion shoot

A LOCAL photographer more used to shooting the stars is hoping to capture girls – and boys – on film for a fashion shoot. Blue Ink Agency is doing a photo shoot for retail store Milan, locally based in the High Street Cleethorpes – and you are welcome to audition.

Photographer Dean Sherwood, who has been chosen as photographer for pop-sensations McFly and Feeder, is heading up the shoot. He said: "We are looking for models to advertise the men's and women's new season of clothing.

"This will prove to be a great introduction for people wanting to get into the industry – and paid work too.”Also, they will appear to a worldwide audience on the website, in a newsletter sent to a million homes, and become part of the Blink Models casting agencies a sister company to Blue Ink."

These are exciting times for the business which has gone global with its website, has well established brand Milan menswear and is about to launch Milan ladies, its new range.

Dean said the shoots were open to all, as Milan was not necessarily looking for an obvious television model. He said: "Most people don't realize they are a model.” We’re not looking for the obvious looks which dominated the scene in the Eighties and Nineties.

"People might have something about them they don't appreciate is model material.” The male model will be working straight away. The female will start later in January. He added: "People who are interested can send in their photographs before possibly arranging a casting session."

A Store for Modernists: Vera Wang's Newest Boutique

New York – Vera Wang hasn't opened a boutique since 1989, but it only means that her new store, which opened in New York on Dec. 4 to a packed crowd of well-wishers, can lay claim to be the most contemporary shopping experience one can have with Vera Wang.

That's good, because what interests Vera Wang is how modern tv models women shop now, whether it's about mixing expensive things with the inexpensive or shopping for entertainment value.

"I wanted to build the brand first," said Wang at the opening night party in Soho. Her brand includes everything from couture to a collection for Kohl's, and the store is a microcosm of that diversity, featuring a mix of her high-end Vera Wang Collection and her contemporary, lower-priced Lavender line, as well as a range of shoes and accessories.

"That's what the world is about today," she said, herself smartly clad in a mixture of pieces from her Kohl's and runway collections, topped with a Fendi fur stole. "Whether a dress is $300 or $1000, why not? It's the same taste level, it's the same thinking. I don't like retail snobbery."

The store's architecture, with soaring ceilings, dramatic ionic columns (original to the building - "I'm the foundation!" said Wang) and open, airy layout feels like a cross between a classical Greek theater and a contemporary art gallery, where the clothes function as both the actors television models and the objects of desire. Plumbing the depths of the store as one shop feels like taking a behind-the-scenes tour of a stylish film set of epic proportions - even though the entire space is only 2500 square feet, modest by flagship store standards.

"The whole thing is like the Metropolitan Opera," she said. "You can change the backdrop, everything can be raised or lowered, the colors (of the lighting) can change...it's all about playing with light and movement, which I'm all about."

Wang plans to open two more stores early next year in Los Angeles, one devoted to the Lavender label, and one comprised of Vera Wang Collection and bridal, but don't expect a carbon copy of the New York store.

"I like every store to be different," she said. "A whole new experience."
